ARMA 3 is a military tactical shooter game that was developed by Bohemia Interactive. The game is available for Microsoft Windows, Linux, and OS X. The game comes with an aesthetic overhaul of the series. For its time, it had unbelievable dynamic lighting, vehicle physics, 3D weapon optics, volumetric cloud system, improved weapon audio, and much more.
The story of ARMA 3 takes place on two fictional Greek islands, Altis and Stratis. The islands together take place on more than 290 square kilometers of hand-made terrain. With its 24-hour lighting system and dynamic weather in place, ARMA 3 is one of the largest military playgrounds. The year is 2030, and a war erupts on the Greek islands where half of the civilian population gets killed. As many of the civilians are homeless, the war causes a refugee crisis. NATO responds with sending peacekeeping forces to the region to secure peace and establish joint NATO-Altan Armed Forces bases on the islands. Five years later, the Eastern armies led by the Iranian military begin supporting the Altan Armed Forces and they mobilize their own forces in the Pacific. This causes tension between NATO and Altan Armed Forces and ultimately breaks the treaty.
In the game, the player takes up the role of US Army Corporal Ben Kerry whose friendly forces are defeated in a failed operation. During ARMA 3’s campaign, the player is going to face every possible scenario. He goes from being a lone wolf Infiltrator to commanding a large scale armored operations. Apart from the single-player mode, ARMA 3 has an incredible multiplayer. The game comes with the traditional co-operative scenarios, but it also has a new addition called Seize and Defend modes, where players can choose to co-operate or compete against a powerful enemy. Both choices have their own benefits and consequences. There is also a Compete mode within ARMA 3 that has no player limit. This allows for massive player vs player operations across the vast terrain of Altis and Stratis. In the Seize and Defend game mode, the player can choose to compete against each other in a race to the finish. Last but not least, ARMA 3 has a new multiplayer mode where two sides are fighting against a common enemy to secure enough Intel in order to identify a final End Game objective.
The ARMA series already have a massive multiplayer player base that are taking advantage of the mission editor tool that allows them to create custom missions and content (the game DayZ was originally a mod for Arma 2). The players of the ARMA games can play a vast array of official and user-created missions. With ARMA 3, Bohemia Interactive made a significant step forward in the military simulation genre. With its endless and creative fan-made content, ARMA 3 can keep you up busy for years, and it is a game definitely worth experiencing. The game has received favorable reviews, and as of March 2017, it has reached 3 million in sales.
