Join your fellow army men in the most anticipated first person shooter of 2016. The savage nature and crude weapons of World War One are sure to keep you engaged for hours. With a vast selection of weapons and vehicles (including zeppelins!) Battlefield 1 is large-scale warfare like you’ve never seen before.
Battlefield 1 is developed by EA DICE and published by Electronic Arts in October 2016. It is the fifteenth major installment to the Battlefield Series and succeeds as a major installment since Battlefield 4 which was released in 2013. It runs in the Frostbite 3 engine and is available on Microsoft Windows, Playstation 4, and Xbox One. It can be played in both single-player and multiplayer mode.
The gameplay is similar to past games in the series. It is a first-person shooter game with a heavy emphasis on teamwork. The player’s ultimate goal is to survive in a midst of a raging battle, while trying to take down enemy soldiers. Since the game is set in World War I, players are only allowed to use weapons available during the era. These include bolt-action rifles, automatic and semi-automatic rifles, artillery, flamethrowers, and mustard gas. Melee weapons are also available the game since the story takes place in an era where automatic weapons have not yet been used widespread. Melee weapons include maces, shovels, pickaxes, and cavalry swords. Players have the ability to drive armored vehicles as well. These include tanks, trucks, cars, torpedo boats, aircraft, trains, airships and even ride horses.
Game plot and campaign mode
The single player campaign mode is categorized into 6 stories set in World War I. These stories are titled Storm of Steel, Through Mud and Blood, Friends in High Places, Avanti Savoia, The Runner, and Nothing is Written. All the stories are played in first-person perspective and each tells a different first world war story. The characters of each story differ, but are all Allied soldiers of different nationalities. Instead of playing as a single character throughout an entire story, the player will be introduced to new characters in every story. Whenever a character dies and a new one is introduced, a badge of their names appears along with their birth and death. Each of the characters feature different strengths, weaknesses, and personalities enhancing the single-player experience and forces the player to adjust strategies.
In the multiplayer mode, which allows for up to 64 players, a squad system is implemented. There are 10 classes available to choose from categorized into four groups: Assault, Medic, Support, and Scout. Each of these classes features their own unique items and weapons which only a soldier from that class will be able to access. They also feature different strategies for winning. Various multiplayer maps can be chosen including Arabia, Western Front, and the Alps. The game’s multiplayer mode has four distinct game types which are the Conquest, Domination, Rush, Operations, Team Deathmatch, War Pigeons, and Frontlines. Each of the game type features different objectives, strategies and goals. When playing multiplayer matches, players will be able to earn currency in the form of War Bonds every time they rank up. These can be used to purchase weapons such as guns. There is also another currency called Scrap only used to purchase battle packs. There is also a new feature called Puzzle Pieces which can unlock melee weapons.
