Borderlands 2 is a sequel to the original Borderlands game. It is a role-playing first-person shooter game that was developed by Gearbox Software and published by 2K Games for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows, OS X, PlayStation Vita, and Linux. IGN awarded the game with a score of 9.0 out of 10.
Borderlands 2 retains the same gameplay as its predecessor. The campaign consists of quests and optional side-missions on the planet of Pandora. The co-op campaign, randomly generated loot and stats for weapons and shields are still present. Borderlands 2 was met with widespread critical acclaim.
Introducing four new characters
Borderlands 2 comes with four new playable characters. They all have different skillsets and traits. Axton, the Commando, can summon a turret to attack with him. Zer0, the Assassin, can become invisible for a short period of time and deploy decoys to distract enemies. On top of that, his first attack delivered from stealth provides bonus damage. Maya, the Siren, can entrap the enemies in a sphere of energy for a few seconds. Salvador, the Gunzerker, has the ability to temporarily dual-wield weapons.
Other additions to Borderlands 2 are the added trading system during multiplayer play, new E-Tech weaponry, new currency for purchasing upgrades, Secret Stash for transferring items between characters, and Eridium bars.
More customization and new items
Gearbox Software has also increased the character customization options. There are plenty of collectible items that unlock different head designs for the characters, new color schemes, and new vehicle paint schemes.
Finally, there is a new ranking system in the game called the “Badass Rank”. Each in-game challenge that is completed by the player awards him tokens that can be redeemed to increase his base stats. These stats are applied to all single player characters.
The story of the game is set five years after the events of the original Borderlands when the Vault Hunters fought the alien abomination known as “The Destroyer”. After his defeat, a new mineral called Eridium surfaced on the planet. The president of the Hyperion Corporation called Handsome Jack secures this resource and now rules over the inhabitants of Pandora. To make matters worse, there are rumors that there is a larger Vault hidden on Pandora, which draws a new group of Vault Hunters to the planet in search for it.
Betrayed by Jack, the four Vault Hunters wake up in the snow in front of a small robot named Claptrap. In order to get away from the frozen wastelands and get to the main land, the Vault Hunters need to get Claptrap’s boat back from a local bandit leader, Captain Flint. Once they secure the boat, they travel to Sanctuary, a home place to the leader of the Crimson Raiders called Rolland, who is captured by a bounty hunter.
From this point on, the Vault Hunters need to fight through the bandits’ territory, and get all the help they come across if they want to find the Vault Key, defeat Jack, and open Pandora’s second Vault.
