Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is an open world, first-person shooter game that was developed by Gearbox Software. The game was published by 2K Games on October 2014, and it is available for Microsoft Windows, OS X, Linux, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel has received positive reviews from critics, Most notably, the game has 9/10 score on Steam, 8/10 on IGN, and 4/5 on Google Play.
The gameplay is similar to other Borderlands games, with the addition of a few new mechanics. Features include new laser guns and items that can process a cryogenic elemental effect that is used to slow down and freeze enemies. Frozen enemies can be smashed into pieces by using melee attacks. There are also new low-gravity environments that cause the player to jump higher but slower, and there are O2 kits that are used to supply air while in space or be used like a jetpack to perform double jumps, hovering, and ground slamming attacks. There are also new vehicles such as the moon buggy, and a hoverbike called Stingray.
As with previous games, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel comes with four different playable characters. These characters were NPCs in both of the previous games. Athena, the Gladiator, is an assassin that uses a temporary shield to absorb damage. Nisha, the Lawbringer, has an ability called Showdown that increases gun damage and speed. Claptrap, the Fragtrap, is the last robot of its kind and comes with a skill called VaultHunter.exe that generates random effects depending on the current situation. These effects can have a positive or negative impact on the player. Willhelm, the Enforcer, is the last playable character that becomes augmented with technology and weaponry as the game progresses. By the end of the game, he is transformed into a cybernetic form and can summon a pair of drones to fight alongside with him.
The story of Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is set between Borderlands and Borderlands 2. The story is told by Athena to an audience of Lilith, Brick, and Mordecai, and it focuses on Handsome Jack who is an employee of the Hyperion Corporation. The game discovers the story how Handsome Jack became the villain of Borderlands 2.
It all starts after the death of General Knoxx when Athena receives an offer to go and find a Vault on Pandora’s moon, Elpis. The offer comes from no other than Jack. Athena joins the band of three more Vault Hunters: Nisha, Willhelm, and Claptrap, and they embark on a journey to a Hyperion moon base to accept the job. Along the way, they are ambushed by the Lost Legion and they crash on the Hyperion moon base where they meet with Jack. In an attempt to use the moon base defense systems, they learn that there is a jamming signal coming from the moon. This is where the game’s adventure begins, as Jack sends the Vault Hunters back to Elpis to turn off the jammer and take Helios back.
