Call of Duty 2 is the successor to the original Call of Duty game. It is a first-person shooting game that was released back in 2005. The game was developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision. The game is available for Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360, Mobile, and OS X. For its time, Call of Duty II was a game that was praised for its graphics and sound quality.
Call of Duty 2 is set during World War II where the main campaign is experienced through four different soldiers. One is in the Red Army, one in the United States Army, and two in the British Army. Similar to the original Call of Duty, the campaign in Call of Duty II is split into three main stories, with a total of 27 missions. Call of Duty 2 also features a multiplayer with several game types such as Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Search and Destroy, Capture the Flag, and Headquarters.
Following the formula of its predecessor, Call of Duty II simulates an actual battlefield. The developers have expanded the scope of combat in order to deliver a more realistic battlefield experience. The squads in Call of Duty II have the freedom to take missions that are played out on expansive battlefields that give the ability to utilize actual combat tactics in order to defeat the enemies. Weather effects like the blizzard conditions of Russia, or the dusty sandstorms of North Africa, will play a huge part in the development of tactics. As mentioned above, Call of Duty II follows three main campaigns.
The Soviet Campaign is played through Private Vasili Koslov who was involved in the defense of Moscow from the German forces. The missions in the Soviet Campaign involve a destruction of a German stronghold in Stalingrad, re-connecting cut telephone wires, re-capturing the train station, and the final mission takes place during the final Soviet offensive in Stalingrad in January 1943.
The first part of the British Campaign is played through a British soldier, Sergeant John Davis. The very first mission sends the player to conduct a sneak attack on German Afrika Korps troops that ends with the destruction of a German supply station. The next mission shows the player defending a town from German soldiers who are advancing from all sides and ultimately, it ends by destroying much of the German tank force using artillery. The next couple of missions show the player fighting through trenches, machine gun nests, and destroying several 88 millimeter guns.
The second part of the British Campaign is played through the role of a British tank commander, David Welsh. The missions are set in Libya where the player is immediately under fire while holding a house until they break out and rendezvous with the second squad. The player fights in Tunisia, Toujane, and the final battle of the British campaign takes place during the Battle of Caen.
The American Campaign is played through a Corporal Bill Taylor. The very first mission is set at D-Day, where the player is required to destroy a German artillery battery, and use it against the German counter-offensive. Most of the missions in the American Campaign are around holding the defense against the German counterattack. The final mission shows the Americans crossing into Germany, where the player ultimately defeats two German Tiger I’s.
