Endless Space 2 is the sequel to Endless Space that was released in 2012. The game is a turn-based strategy that was released on May 19, 2017. Developed by Amplitude Studios and published by Sega, the game is available on Microsoft Windows and Mac OS.
Endless Space 2 puts the player in a leading position where he needs to guide a civilization in making its first steps in space. The game features mysterious star systems with secrets of ancient races, development of advanced technologies, and new life forms to court or to conquer.
The story is about a galaxy that was first colonized by the Endless. All that remains of these people are mystical ruins, powerful artifacts, and a mystical substance known as Dust.
The game features several unique races that come with their own traits and perks. Once the player chooses a race, he is given control to an empire that he needs to expand by conquering systems. Each of these systems is a home to 4 planets. The planets have their own unique environment, climate, stats, and anomalies.
The environment of the planet shows whether the planet can be colonized or not, the stats show how effective the planets are in production of food and providing resources. The anomalies of the planet give buffs to the entire system. The player can also get buffs from the planet climate and by choosing a specialization for each planet in the system.
In order to progress through the game, the player needs to research and unlock new weapons, modules, abilities, ship hulls, upgrades, and more. The player has four different options when it comes to research. There is military, science and technology, business and trade, and empire development research.
Every category helps the player reach the ultimate goal which means expand the empire, colonize more systems, and win the game while competing with other empires. While competing with other empires, the player can choose to interact and collaborate with them or declare war and fight. Each empire comes with their own territory and a different relationship with the player. They can be in a cold war, war, wary, etcetera. Politics and law are a major factor in Endless Space 2. With 6 different parties, the player has a tough job of balancing act on different colonies.
To make things more interesting, there are some minor empires with which the player can interact, get them to send resources, and assimilate them into their empire. However, the enemy empires can also interact with them.
The war with the other empires can be fought in the air and on the ground. The players can engage in ship battles, where the outcome is entirely random. However, the strength of the fleet and the battle tactics greatly increases the chance of victory.
Endless Space 2 is all about the exploration and telling the story of the player’s growing galactic empire.
