Far Cry 4 is the fourth installment of the Far Cry franchise developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft. The game is available for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox one, and Microsoft Windows. The game was released on November 18th, 2014. The game is a first-person adventure shooter in an open world. Far Cry 4 has been the fastest-selling game and the most successful launch in the series in its first week of release.
The game takes place in a vast, unknowable land called Kyrat. It is a wild region of the Himalayas where players find themselves struggling under the regime of a despotic self-appointed king. The main story focuses on Ajay Ghale who is a young Kyrati-American. He is caught in a civil war involving Kyrat’s Royal Army controlled by king Pagan Min, and a rebel movement called the Golden Path. The players have the choice to write their own story across an exotic open-world landscape with the use of a vast variety of weapons, vehicles and animals.
The world within Far Cry 4 is divided into two halves: North and South Kyrat. The player starts in South Kyrat which is accessible to explore immediately. On the other hand, North Kyrat is unlocked as the player progresses through the story. The map is revealed by taking over bell towers. These towers help players reveal new areas and mark new locations of interest on the map.
Despite the fact that the main story is for the player to dethrone Pagan Min the player can find himself choosing between Amita and Sabal, the two leaders of the rebellion. At key points during the campaign, the player has to decide whether to side with Amita or Sabal. Both have very different views regarding the history and traditions of Kyrat and how to move forward. The choices the player makes affect the immediate missions. In the beginning, the decisions might not seem that important, but as the player progresses through the campaign, he will see that his decisions have slightly larger consequences. The end of the game will play out the way it does because of the decisions that the player has made throughout the game.
Guns for Hire
On top of the single-player mode, Far Cry features a co-operative multiplayer mode known as “Guns for Hire”. This mode is played separately from the game’s campaign and it supports up to two players. The mode allows the players to explore the game’s world, infiltrate outposts, and defeat enemies with their friends. Players can also create their own custom content via the Map Editor. These maps can be shared and played with their friends.
