Prey is a first-person shooting game developed by Arkane Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. It was initially released in May 2017 and is available on the platforms of Microsoft Windows, Playstation 4, and Xbox One. It can be played in single-player mode only. It stands as a reimagination of the game franchise of the same name developed by Human Head Studios.

The setting of the story happens in 2035 in a space station called Talos I owned by a corporation named Transtar.Talos I used to be named Kletka and owned by the United States and U.S.S.R in 1960’s.The space station was initially used as a cage for a various alien species collectively called Typhon that attempted to attack Earth. It was later reused as a research lab for studying the species under the program “Project Axiom”. Talos I eventually stood as a research lab and a home to the production of Neuromods, a self-enhancement innovation coming from the Typhon themselves.

The character to be played is Morgan Yu. Morgan Yu’s story starts in 2032 with his recruitment to TranStar.  An accident leads to his unconsciousness causing him to wake up three years later in 2035. Morgan finds out through January, an artificial intelligence, that the Typhon have taken over the station and killed the majority of the crew. Without any memory, Morgan is set to survive the situation and escape the station.

The gameplay is a first-person shooting game with the elements of role-playing. The story is told in a first person perspective through the role of Morgan Yu. The player is allowed to customize a lot of Morgan’s attributes including gender. The player’s goal is to explore the space station, collect resources and weapons, and use them to survive while fighting off aliens. The game’s environment is not only limited to the space station as the outside of it is also accessible under zero gravity which features a few shortcuts to some areas of the station.

There are numerous aliens that the player will encounter along the story. Each of them has different characteristics and powers that will serve as an obstacle to Morgan Yu. For instance, there exists an alien that mimics inanimate objects and an alien that is much like human shadows. It is then the player’s objective to determine what these are and learn how to strategize with this knowledge. Their Neuromods can also be used by the player as Morgan learns them. To fight off aliens, plenty of weapons are scattered all over the station for the player to find. These include traps, flaming pipes, and electrical boxes. Crafting of weapons is also a possibility using items that can also be found around the station.  There are also many stealth choices and routes in the environment that the player will be able to make use of.

The game is said to feature multiple endings depending on the player’s decisions and interactions with the station and survivors. There exist three major narrative structures that the player can fall into.
